Swindon College ‘Live’ Sketchbook Project – Visual Journey

Swindon College Press Release…

Visual Journey: A selection of sketchbooks from Swindon College degree students.

A group of 2nd and 3rd year degree art students have today (12th March 2013) embarked on a one-day live project in conjunction with Rabley Drawling Centre facilitated by Meryl Ainslie. They will be selecting, curating and exhibiting an exclusive collection of sketchbooks which take the viewers on a visual journey. This will provide a unique insight into artists’ thoughts, experiments and the many varied ways sketchbooks can be used. The exhibition hopes to ‘challenge all previous conceptions
of contemporary sketchbook work’.

“Thank you for a brilliant and productive day. I found it extremely insightful in knowing how to select, curate, market, network exhibitions. I never realised how much went into making an exhibition successful. I found the day beneficial in knowing what to expect when leaving art school, and knowing how to approach galleries.”   Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us, it was a fun day,  I really enjoyed listening to you.” Jemma Gunning Y3

“This looks fantastic! Thank you again for a very educational day :)” Kerry Gault Y2

“Thank you for a very interesting and eye opening workshop yesterday. You mentioned that if we wanted to volunteer to help in the future with shows or with the SKETCH 2013 exhibition, we should email you back and let you know. I would definitely relish the opportunity to volunteer with you in the future” Helen Cole Y2

  4. Thankyou Meryl for a really interesting day. The location and studio was lovely and peaceful. I really enjoyed your perceptive, truthful clear and engaging insights and tips into the art world as a whole and also as a business. I loved how you showed the group about sharing respect and fairness. Something I feel often gets overlooked within uni groups who often wrongly perceive its just one big competition amongst peers. As you said working within a vacuum is not possible we are effectively part of a wider community. And this sense of community should start early on. Thank you for addressing the reality of the modern art world then noticing and promoting the effects of a healthy, artistic, intelligent human attitude..
