Sketchbooks, drawing and off-press printmaking with artist Sandy Sykes
at Rabley Drawing Centre.
In the closing week of her solo exhibition ‘The Flying Itself’ at the Rabley Contemporary Gallery, Sandy took students on a journey of self-discovery through pages of their sketchbooks in her course ‘Drawn to Ideas’; drawing on their hands, eyes and imagination.
Starting with a scrapbook of clippings and drawings Sandy helped liberate ideas in an experimental sketchbook and then to select elements to develop into drawings or prints, using off-press printing methods.
Her teaching and ‘adventurous approach to drawing’ (A.G. 2013 ) encourages ‘quick decision making and spontaneous mark making’(V.C. 2013) and lead the students to new directions and unexpected outcomes through constant questioning and evaluation.
‘…what a fantastic few days. For me it was pure Joy and feel now out of the block I had managed to get myself into. Am now on a roll!’ – Dee Carter
Sandy will be back to Rabley run a ‘More Ideas’ course and offer special tutorial opportunities. Watch this space…
