Landscape drawing and monoprint course with Emma Stibbon RA

The weather may not have been ideal, but this didn’t stop 9 students immersing themselves in the dramatic open spaces of the Wiltshire downs, armed with huge boards and jars of Indian ink.

Emma Stibbon introduced the group to the historical and contemporary context for pictorial landscape traditions, as well as various drawing and monoprint methods, to enable them to respond through drawing to place and environment freely, and intuitively.

For a large part of the course the students worked outside, taking in the drama of the Wiltshire Downs and the looming structures of the Rabley woodland. Who better than artist  Emma Stibbon to guide them with her experience in gathering research ‘in the field’, and also encourage them to work in large scale and develop drawings back in the studio. We hope all they have gathered from this course will continue to inspire and develop their own practice, and they will come back to visit us at Rabley soon!

In 2013 Rabley artist Emma Stibbon RA embarks on her biggest and most ambitious project yet! Drawing the Polar Regions will take her on two drawing expeditions to the earth’s extremes; the High Arctic and to revisit the Antarctic Peninsular. Rabley followed Emma’s journey and experiences in an exclusive blog, so if you would like to come along too, please sign up and we will keep you posted of her progress.
