Eileen Cooper’s work has often featured trees, they have an intense connection to her figures, stretching up into the air but deeply rooted in the ground. Cooper’s new prints and drawings concentrate on the gloriously rich relationship we have always had with trees. As ever her images are informed by mythology, custom and legend, underpinned by the complex question of human relationships.
In Sweet Chestnut, the tree itself is so closely entwined with the female figure they almost become one. Eileen Cooper’s new print captures the sumptuous arrival of Autumn and the abundance of nature and our relationship with it.
